Idle and Thackley is a small non profit making coarse fishing club  based in  Bradford West Yorkshire . It is a member of  The River Swale Preservation Society . The  club is also affiliated to Aireborough and District AA .  The Association hold rights on the Rivers Swale  , Aire and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.  For details see Peg 4.

2008 Swainby Open Match Dates
The last of the Winter Aggregate Series matches will be run at Swainby on the 9th of march . Other match dates are 22nd June , 6th July , 20th July , 10th August  , 24th August , 21st Sept , 5th Oct ,  19th Oct , 2nd Nov , 16th Nov  , 7th Dec , 21^st Dec. Swainby Match Result R Swale 24.2.08
The river was 3ft up at the start but dropped a foot during the match. Winner Charlie Hardaker had 2 big chub for 9lb 3oz on ledgered caster from peg 31.  Second placed Jack Cragg also caught 2 on meat from peg 18 for 8lb 11oz. 3rd was Mark Balderstone 7lb 2oz P72 and fourth placed D Summers caught a 6lb 8oz barbel on ledgered maggot from peg 24. Swainby Match Result R Swale 3.2.08
The river was 4ft up and rising but some of bigger chub were feeding. Alan Miller was the only angler to catch 2 so won the match with 7lb 11oz from peg27 on ledgered cheese. Second placed Arthur Kemp caught the largest single chub of 4lb 12oz on bread from peg 63 . 3rd was G Blewitt  P49 4lb 7oz and 4th Charlie Hardaker 4lb 6oz P24.

2008/9 Rod License Reminder – Don’t Get Done!
The Environment Agency Rod License needs to be renewed from 1^st April. Anyone aged 12 years or over who fishes for salmon, trout, freshwater fish or eels in England and Wales must have a valid Environment Agency Rod Fishing License. Fees are Annual Adult Coarse/ Trout costs £24.50, Concessionary OAP's £12.25 and Junior 12 to16 £5.00. The new license is obtainable from Idle and all remaining Post Offices. Leeds and Liverpool Canal Reports.
Pike up to double figures responding to dead baits and spinners at bottom of Dobson locks. On Milder days catches of Roach and skimmers and perch at Harrogate Rd end and marina Mouth on bread punch and maggot. Odd Chub to 4lb and Perch to 1lb at bottom of locks on red maggot. Day tickets available on the bank price £3 Adults with Juniors £1.50 Yearbooks and Day Tickets also available from C&N Off License (at the junction of Fourlands Rd/ Leeds Rd) and Eccleshill Angling Supplies.
